He was predeceased by: his parents, Nixon Smith and Jenny Mitchell Smith; and his siblings, Dock Smith, Willie Smith, Nixon Smith Jr., Minnie Smith Hill and Lillie Mae Smith Edwards.
He is survived by: his wife Jennie Fitzgerald Smith; his daughter Cindy Smith Gurley (Jeff) of Rosewood; his brother John Ray Smith (Blois) of Princeton; his grandchildren, Nick Gurley (Madison, Joseph Gurley), Mary and Catherine Talton (Bryan); and his great grandchildren, Rose Talton, Joseph Lynwood "J. L." Gurley, Eleanor Rae Gurley and Gibson James Gurley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Princeton Baptist Church; 211 W. Pearl St., Princeton, NC 27569.
