He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ellis Sparks, Sr. and Sarah Sutton Sparks; and his son Daniel Oneal Sparks. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Johnson Sparks; his sons, Jonathan Bradley "Brad" Sparks (Brook) of Powells Point, NC and James Dwight Sparks (Virginia) of Greensboro, NC; his sister Diane Sparks Chappell of Orange, CA; his grandchildren, Bradley Sparks, Jonathan Sparks, Bagby Sparks, Eliza Sparks and Parker Sparks; and his nephews, Tim Chappell (Christia) and Tom Chappell (Gigi Blas).
