He was predeceased by: his parents, Haywood Modlin and Harriet Elizabeth "Betty" Waters Modlin. He is survived by: his wife Janice Ann Rogerson Modlin; his grandson William David Steele; his sons-in-law, Bob Nunally and Douglas Steele; his siblings, Livie Sherman, Blanche Ricks, Dorothy Baggette, Essie Pearl Scott, Dolly Chesson, Mayo Modlin, James Modlin and Bobby Modlin; his daughters, Joyce Modlin Steele of Plymouth, NC and Harriet Modlin Nunnally of Jamesville, NC; his brothers, Raymond Modlin of Robersonville, NC and David Modlin of Plymouth, NC; his close friend Harry Sexton; his grandchildren, Doug Steele, Jr. (Annaliesa), Stacie Hassell (Joe), Heather Dotson (Tommy) and Beth Van (Dan); his great grandchildren, Derek, Kimber, Kevin, Kelly of Ben, R. J., Victoria and Nick; and his great great grandchildren, Kelsey, Olivia, Freya, Emily, Derek, Jr., Browning, Trenton, Nathan, Anniston, Kevin Jr., Emma Grace, Anderson, Aubrey, Mason, Maeleigh, Bryson and Bronson.
