He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Kearns and Flora Bell Kearns; and his siblings, James Kearns, Janie Kearns, Ruby Goble, Sarah Wetherbee and Jo Hedrick.

He is survived by: his wife Anna Kearns; his children, James Kearns (Michelle) of Winston Salem, NC, Timothy Kearns (Amy) of Jacksonville and Pennie Williamson (West) of Summerfield, NC.; his grandchildren, Marie, Sarah (Michael), Adam, Teri (Sean), Kalyn and Hailey; and his great grandchildren, Jonathan and Joanna.
