He was predeceased by: his parents, John Arnold Kirkman and Molene Hardin Kirkman; his wife Debbie Kirkman; and his sister Sue K. Pine. He is survived by: his siblings, Charles Kirkman (Judy) and Gayle Greene (Mickey); and his brother-in-law Keefer Pine.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's hospital, a charity that Sam felt very strongly about.
