He was predeceased by: his parents, Bessie Kirkman and Ferrell Kirkman; his sister Peggy Steelman; his son Darrell Kirkman; and his stepson Stephen Collier.
He is survived by: his children, Cecil and Melissa Sumner; his grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Sumner; his daughter Paige Hundley White; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Emily and Alex; and his sister Martha Bunton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
