He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Denver Cates and Geraldine Pickett Cates; and his nephew Jeremy Cates. He is survived by: his wife Dianne S. Cates of Pittsboro; his children, Alex Cates of Silk Hope, Patrick Cates (Taylor) of Pittsboro and Wendy Cates Burgess (Jeff) of Apex; his siblings, David Cates (Patty) of Louisburg, Randy Cates of Pittsboro and Cindy Creed (Van) of Pittsboro; and his grandchildren, Wesley Burgess, Allison Burgess and Lincoln Cates.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions to be made in Mike's memory to the American Cancer Society P.O. Box 22718 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73123.
