He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo John Spaeder, Sr. and Frances Margaret Spaeder; his brother Major Francis X. Spaeder; his aunt Beatrice Kraus; his uncle Gerald Kraus; and his cousin Vincent.

He is survived by: his wife Frances Spaeder; his sons, Tim Spaeder (Ivana) and Jeff Spaeder (Gwyneth); and his grandchildren, William, Nela, Claire, Lucy and Nina.
