He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Graham and Gradie Edwards Mitchum; his wife Jeanie Mitchum; his brother Cecil Mitchum; and his siblings-in-law, Mary Mitchum and Bill Walton.

He is survived by: his sons, Marc (Jodie) of Wanchese, NC, Paul (Jeanette) of Pittsboro, NC and Joe (Anna) of Emerald Isle, NC; his sister Lorraine Walton of Monroe, NC; his sister-in-law Teka Mitchum of Matthews, NC; his brothers, Gerald Mitchum (Frances) of Southern Pines, NC and Larry Mitchum of Baton Rouge, LA; his grandchildren, Mark Etheridge (Alli), Scott Etheridge (Cole), Daniel Mitchum, Wesley Mitchum, Nathan Mitchum (Sara), Harry Mitchum, Oliver Mitchum, Kathleen Mitchum, Emma Mitchum, Anna Claire Mitchum and Isabella Mitchum; and his great grandchild Christopher Etheridge. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
