He was loved and cherished by many people including: his mother Sophia Mae Bland Lynn; his wife Bertha Lassiter Bland; his siblings, Barbara Sue Lawes (Danny), Mary Ruth Headen, Robert (Easter) and Howard (Cynthia); his children, Saundra Tammy Gardner (Charles) and Samuel Lassiter; his grandchildren, Tana Nettey (Tetteh), Justin Lassiter, Ashley Jones (Cliff), Chelsea Gardner and Nicholas Lassiter; and his great grandchildren, Imani Nettey and Carter Jones. He was also cherished by two children as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
