He was predeceased by: his parents, Walton R Gillespie and Alva Fisher Gillespie; his parents-in-law, Bob Cooper and Jeanette Cooper; his sister Doris Nell; and his brothers-in-law, Hardie King, Wayne Hollingsworth, Dick Queen and Ulas Guice.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Cooper Gillespie; his sisters, Glenda Queen of Pisgah Forest and Martha Hollingsworth of Etowah; his siblings-in-law, Bobby Cooper (Belinda), Suzanne Stroup (Charles) and Irene Stowe (Bruce); and his nieces and nephews, Kerri, Mindy, Aliana, Linda, Faye, Michelle, Tina, Terri, Jim, Cole, Darren and Brian.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private service will be held with the Rev Mike Pressley officiating.
Donations may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
