He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rexford Brown and Ruth Kemp Brown; his brother Bobby Rex Brown; his niece Geraldine Ruth "Deanie" Akers; and his nephew Francis Bryson Greene.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Brown (Libby); his nephew Timothy Markham Brown; and his nieces, Carol Jane Cast, Elizabeth Ann Kale and Faye Hinson Buchanan.
