She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey Thorton Smith and Grace Angeline Branscome Smith; and her husband Fred Chapman, Sr.. She is survived by: her sons, James "Jim" Gray Pell, Sr. (Lisa) of Pilot Mountain and Timothy "Tim" S. Pell (Debbie) of Springfield, MO; and her stepchildren, Patricia Chapman of Statesville, Marsha Boan (Tim) of Statesville and John Chapman (Gail) of Catawba. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
