He was predeceased by: his parents, George William and Ruth Smith Turney; his brothers, Charles, Pete and Randy Turney; his granddaughter Emma Arrington; and his great grandchild Zayden Workman.
He is survived by: his children, James Turney of Thomasville, Sarah and Angela Turney; his brothers, Kim and Ken Turney; his half-brother Matthew Turney of Minnesota; his sister Brenda Craddock (Bobby) of Ararat, NC; his stepsister Heather Buckley of Mt. Airy; his grandchildren, Jasmine Turney, Barbara Smith, Taylor Turley and Avery Turley; his great grandchild Ethaniel Childress; and his close friend Teena Marshall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society for Research.
