It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Karmel Taft of Pikeville, North Carolina, who passed away on April 8, 2021, at the age of 40, leaving to mourn family and friends. She is survived by: her children, Akadin Phillips of Pikeville, Maia Phillips of Pikeville, Tyrie Phillips of Montana, Jay Taft of Kinston, Mia Taft of Kinston and Joel Taft of Kinston; her pet Misfit; her husband Jessie D. "Rico" Taft Jr.; her parents, Randy Burford of Clinton and Judy Burford of Warrensburg, Missouri; and her sister Jennifer Hollander (David) of Warrensburg. She is also survived by five nephews.
