He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Ray Brooks and Anna Brogans Brooks; and his sister Mary Sue Brooks Anderson (Reuben). He is survived by: his sons, Eric Jones of Danville and Johnny Dennis Brooks, Jr. of Danville; and his siblings, James Brooks (Pat) of Lauderdale, MS, Leonard Brooks (Betty) of Ruffin, NC, Larry Brooks of Pelham, NC and Linda Brooks Gauldin of Ringgold, VA. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
