He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorsey Speed and Lucy Thorpe Speed; and his siblings, Virginia Terry, Ophelia Hunt, Gennie Hunt, Lucy Henderson, Dorsey L. Speed and James Speed.
He is survived by: his wife Christine Speed; his sons, Derek Speed (Angela) of Roxboro and Ivan Speed (Marilyn) of Burlington; his grandchildren, Nakeda Harris, Tyeisha Hewett, Derek Speed, Jr., Shynese Cooper, Makayla Speed and Tiara Speed; and his siblings, Ola Mae Reed of Roxboro, Cora Walker of Roxboro, Sadie Eaton (Bobby) of Oxford, Marilyn Downey (Larry) of Oxford and Arlene Hawley of Virginia Beach, Virginia. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
