He was predeceased by: his parents, James Earl Wester and Sally Mae Fry Wester; and his brother Fleming Wester. He is survived by: his wife Iva Mae King Wester; his children, Amy Denise Wester, Donna Elaine Wester, John Earl Wester and Byron Lynn Wester; and his stepchildren, Jane Dease, Debra Inscoe (Grady), Nora Clayborne (Kenneth) and Bobby Lewis Hunt Jr. (Rhonda). He is also survived by nine grandchildren as well as nine step-grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; and many extended family.
