He was predeceased by: his parents, Haywood Arthur Hicks and Mittie Belle Daniel Hicks; his brother Haywood Larry Hicks; and his sister-in-law Ann Cottrell Hicks. He is survived by: his wife Peggy Matthews Hicks of Granville County; his son Steven Wayne Hicks (Angela) of Oxford; and his granddaughters, Hope Elizabeth Hicks and Hailey Ann Hicks.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in honor of Wayne to the American Diabetes Association, the American Stroke Association, or the American Cancer Society.
