He is survived by: his wife Etheleen Stephenson Butts; his children, Henry Dwight "Hank" Butts, Jr. (Debbie) of Wilson, Joseph Chong "Joe" Butts (Melissa) of Wilson and Janet Lee Butts Allen (John) of Wilmington; his sister Carolyn Davis of Newport, NC; his stepchildren, Gilda Hope James Monterone of Goldsboro, Eleanor Dianne James Pierce of Goldsboro, Wanda Kay James Bragg (Ronnie) of Goldsboro, Celia Gayle James Gwaltney (Wayne) of Goldsboro, William Craig James of Goldsboro and Jesse Berry James, Jr. of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Logan Butts, Madison Butts, Joseph Chong Butts, Jr., Cohen Butts and John David Allen, Jr.; his stepgrandchildren, Darle Ray Moore (Tiona), Wendy Herring (David), John Monterone (MJ), Ronald Alan Pierce (Cheryl), Josh March, Jesse March, Miranda Powell, Jarvis Gwaltney, Morgan Gwaltney (Sara), Samuel Gwaltney, Krisha James, April Hughes (Kevin), Scott James (Mandy), Jeffery James (Amber), Daniel Helfer, Matthew Helfer and Jonathan Helfer; and his nephew Earlton Lucas.
