With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Helen C Othow (Oxford, North Carolina), who passed away on January 1, 2022 at the age of 89. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Benjamin Franklin Chavis, Sr. and Elisabeth Ridley Chavis; and her husband Paul Anade Othow of Sudan. She is survived by: her daughters, Ajulonyodier Elisabeth Othow and Attorney Ajulo Othow Norman; her grandson Collis Raymon Norman, Jr.; her siblings, Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr., Dr. LaRhoda Francine Chavis and Carol Faye Payton; her stepgranddaughters, Abigail Norman, Mercedes Norman, Jasmine Norman and Princess Norman; and her nieces and nephews, Marva Elisabeth Davenport, Ana Elisabeth Chavis, Paula Chavis Jones, Nicole "Nikki" Bullock, Renita Peace Timberlake, Benjamin Franklin Chavis III, Reginald Louis Chavis and John Mandela Chavis.
A viewing is schedule Friday, January 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at Wright Funeral Home, Inc. COVID-19 protocols of facial coverings and social distances of six feet or more will be observed.
Contributions may be made in care of the John Chavis Historical Society to the Dr. Helen Chavis Othow Scholarship Fund to St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, NC and to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin.
