He is survived by: his wife Christie Elkerson Smith; his children, Christiaana Elkerson-Smith of Oxford, Simone Smith of Oxford and Derrick Smith, Jr. of Oxford; his goddaughter Jada Daniels of Oxford; his parents, Derrick Rena Smith of Stovall and Esther Owens Smith of Stovall; his siblings, Denaka Smith of Stovall, Stanley Smith of Oxford, Johnny Thorpe of Oxford and Carlton Thorpe of Oxford; and his grandmothers, Esther Mozell Owens and Marie B. Smith of Stovall.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Home (3724 Salem Rd, Oxford, NC 27565). A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3rd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Home Chapel (3724 Salem Rd, Oxford, NC 27565).
