He was predeceased by: his parents, Moses Burwell and Ophelia Brandon Burwell; his sons, Barry Cotten and Torain Burwell; his grandson Johnnie Bailey Jr.; and his siblings, Lucinda B. Ester, Marvie J. Burwell, Ivy B. Counts, Lois B. Braswell, Earsell Burwell and Daniel Burwell.
He is survived by: his wife Judith Cotten Burwell; his children, Bernetta C. Bailey of Henderson, NC and Jeffrey Burwell (Crystal) of Henderson, NC; his bonus-daughter Stephanie Royster of Oxford, NC; his grandchildren, Chanel C. Brown, Shante Cotten, Cherita H. Taylor (DeMario), Biante B. McCallum (Charles), Jeffrey Burwell II, Devin Berry-Burwell (Zhane), Julian Burwell, Siara Burwell, Heavenly N. Benoit, Torez Ortiz, Za'Kari Burwell, Nevaeh Burwell and Kingston Burwell; his sisters, Catherine Peace (Patrick) of Oxford, NC and Edith Rogers of Oxford, NC; and his sisters-in-law, Margie Hunt of Oxford, NC, Esther Owens of Stovall, NC, Narbara Williams of Sedalia, NC and Vivian Herdon of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by his 29 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; extended family; and friends.
