He is survived by: his sister Willia Morton (Sweetie); his children, Raymond Stokes (Elena Poina Stokes), Derrick Downey and Chante Downey (Deion); his grandchildren, Samuel Christopher Stokes, Qiana Joy Stokes, Raven Lynn Johnson, David Raymond Stokes and Derrick Downey, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Cameron Killet, Carter Watson, Cayden Watson, Deion Watson, Jr., Kash Watson, Jaslynn Olivia Downey, Sienna Christine Stokes and Samuel Christopher Stokes, Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Sarah Downey of Oxford, N. C and Hazel Mangum of Creedmoor, N. C.; and his close friend Rico D. Yarbrough. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins.
