He was predeceased by: his parents, Basil S. Murray and Thelma Harris Murray; his wife Janice C. Murray; and his siblings, Thomas Murray, JB Murray, Oscar Murray, Stephen Murray, Shirley Murray, Johnny Murray, Adele Townsend and Willie Mae Kilgore.
He is survived by: his sons, Johnny Delane Murray and James "J. B."; his grandchildren, Angel Avila Murray and Joshua Delane Murray (Dana R.); his great grandchildren, Carson and Skylar; and his sisters, Edna Brooks and Betsy Hobgood (Raymond).
