She was predeceased by: her parents, Aquila Young VanHoy and Anna Lou Gregory VanHoy; her sister Sylvia Hale; and her siblings-in-law, Kip Hale, Darryl Addis and Sandy VanHoy.

She is survived by: her husband James Thomas "Tommy" Gaither; her sons, Mark Gaither (Jeanne) of Olin and Matthew Gaither of Olin; her grandchildren, Trent Gaither of Olin and Kiley Gaither of Charlotte; and her siblings, Steve VanHoy (Carole) of Mooresville, Kay McKnight (Tom) of Raleigh, Joan Addis of Harmony, Albert VanHoy of Olin, Bryan VanHoy (Jane) of Statesville and Clint VanHoy (Dee) of Union Grove. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
