He was predeceased by: his father Horace Ballew; his wife Ellen Edwards Ballew; and his siblings, Charles Ballew and Mary Burnette. He is survived by: his sons, Mike Ballew (Tammy), Marvin Ballew (Angela) and Jim Ballew (Roberta); his grandchildren, Matthew Ballew, Ben Ballew (Chloe), Breanna Ballew, Chase Ballew, Brittany Robinson (Nick), Chelsie Arrowood (Tristan), Ryan Langdon, Katelyn Holmes (Isaiah) and Emily Register (Kyle Chapman); and his sister Louise Sherrill. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
