It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Joseph Smith of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, born in Plainfield, New Jersey, who passed away on May 30, 2023, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his father-in-law Thomas Behan of Sunset Beach, NC; and his brothers-in-law, Thomas C. Behan, Ocean Isle Beach and Bryan Behan of Tom's River, NJ.. He is survived by: his parents, Joanne Largey DePiero of New Bern, NC and Richard S. Smith of Denton, NC.; his stepfather Jules DePiero; his wife Karen Behan Smith; his sons, Richard Thomas Smith and Dayton Joseph Smith; his siblings, Brian Smith (Leah) and Kim Merritt (Harold) of Wilmington, NC; his parents-in-law, Patricia and Tom Cascio of Old Bridge, NJ; his sister Erin; his brother-in-law Chris Hahn of New Hope, PA; and his nieces and nephews, Christopher, Nicholas, Brian, Lincoln, Zane, Marley and Ally. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins.
