It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mary Jane Brust of Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, who passed away on February 27, 2025, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Gustave Vellek and Mary Veronica Harper Vellek; her husband Dr. Joseph Vincent Brust; and her siblings, Jacquelyn Burkardt (William) and Michael Vellek (Janet).
She is survived by: her daughters, Susan Dunseath (James), Jacquelyn Stegeland (Michael), Cynthia McCartney (Mark), Mary Phillips (Brian), Jennifer Thomas (Charles), Laura Nassim-Sobhan (Nader) and Alison Hatzopoulos (Joseph). She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
A Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Brendan Catholic Church (5101 Ocean Hwy W, Shallotte, NC 28470). The inurnment will be held on Thursday, March 27th 2025 at 10:30 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mary Jane to Museum of Coastal Carolina in Ocean Isle Beach, NC, an organization dedicated to inspiring curiosity about our coastal environment and the broader natural universe through experiences that are educational, science-based, fun and interactive.
