He was predeceased by: his brother Charles Edward Smith. He is survived by: his children, Douglas Smith, Jr (Wendy) of Oakboro, Michele Reynolds (Danny) of Fayetteville and Elizabeth Dickson (Rick) of Mooresville; and his siblings, Sharon Starnes (Paul) of Locust and Michael Smith of Asheville. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
