He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Gartland and Sylvia Miller Gartland; and his nephew Bryan Krolick. He is survived by: his wife Laura Wistrom Gartland; his children, Jason (Elizabeth) of Durham, NC, Kelly Fitzwater (Mathew) of Concord, NC and Katie (John Hewes III) of Oak Ridge, NC; his grandson Anderson Fitzwater; and his sisters, Linda Krolick (Pat) and Marsha Parker (Tony). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
