He was predeceased by: his parents, James G. Mattern, Sr. and Patricia L. Mattern (Mitchell); and his niece Kelly Franciamone. He is survived by: his wife Marion Simrill; his sisters, Kathleen F. Jackson (Robert) of Altoona, PA and Mary Lou Perry (Greg) of Altoona, PA; his children, Samuel J. Mattern (Sanja) of Columbus, OH, Jacob G. Mattern of Oak Island, NC and Rachel M. Mattern-George (Ryan) of Tyrone, PA; and his grandchildren, Stefan, Maja, Delilah, Marshall and Jasper. He is also survived by six nephews.
