With heavy hearts, we announce the death of George Getzen Mathews Jr. of Oak Island, North Carolina, who passed away on March 13, 2024 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, George Getzen and Hattie Gibson; his wife Helen Mathews; and his siblings, Hettie Bet Stubbs, Martie Odom and Jack Mathews.

He is survived by: his children, Pam Rowell (Dennis) and George "Mat" Mathews; and his grandsons, Jason Mathews and Jarod Mathews. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Island Evangelical Presbyterian Church or Hospice.
