She was predeceased by: her parents, W. C. Helms Sr. and Lucille Whitley Helms; her brothers, W. C. Helms, Jr. and Jimmy Helms; and her husband Joe Len Carpenter.

She is survived by: her children, Randy Carpenter of Norwood and Jennifer Carpenter (Rex) of Oakboro; her granddaughters, Hannah Trainer (Callum) and Abigail Huneycutt (Jacob); and her great grandchild Joseph Trainer.
