He was predeceased by: his father Floyd Nelson; and his brothers, Lee Fesperman and Larry Fesperman. He is survived by: his wife Iris Hamilton Fesperman; his children, Brian Fesperman of Norwood and Bridget Russell (Tyler) of Albemarle; his grandchildren, Stephen, Brodie and Deacon; his siblings, Benny Fesperman (Diane), Donnie Fesperman (Pamelia) and Carol Hatley; his niece Tish McNeill (Larry); and his mother-in-law Rachel Hamilton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
