He was loved and cherished by many people including: his son James "Bud" Shepherd of Norwood; his grandchildren, James "Jay" Shepherd of Albemarle, Sam Shepherd of Norwood and Tempestt Shepherd of Hickory; and his great grandchild Carter Shepherd of Albemarle.
