He was predeceased by: his mother Ella Mae Rhoads Sturgill; and his brother Samuel Sturgill. He is survived by: his father Alvin Eugene; and his siblings, Linda Sturgill of Hays, Phyllis Richardson of North Wilkesboro, Alvin Wayne Sturgill of North Wilkesboro, James Ward Rhoads (Linda Kay) of North Wilkesboro and Michael Dwight Sturgill (Monk) of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
