Rebecca Johnson Mastin Obituary
Rebecca Johnson Mastin, age 54, of North Wilkesboro, passed away peacefully at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston- Salem, NC on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Rebecca was born in Iredell County to Leon and Joan Johnson on December 2, 1969. She was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School, then went on to Elon University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She received her Master of Education Administration from Gardner-Webb University. Rebecca retired from Wilkes County Schools as a beloved Principal and educator of 30 years. Rebecca is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Joan Johnson.
Rebecca was a bright light to all who knew and loved her. She spread joy wherever she went. She was passionate about education and truly loved the children and staff at the schools in which she served. Although an esteemed educator and Principal, one of her greatest accomplishments was being a mother to John Tate and Geneva. She treasured her children and her husband and loved spending time with her family and traveling. She was a devoted Christ follower and a member of Fishing Creek Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish her memories are her spouse, Eric Mastin; her son, John Tate, and daughter, Geneva, of the home; her brother, Michael (Sandy) Sparks of Union Grove, NC; her sister, Jill Sparks Urban of Lincolnton, Georgia; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Fishing Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Blevins and Pastor Jeff Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Fishing Creek Baptist Church immediately following the burial on Saturday.
