She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Sherman and Mattie Jane Spicer Bauguess; her husband Thurman Shepherd; and her grandsons, Greg Higgins and Ronald Elmore.

She is survived by: her children, Betty Elledge (Ralph) of North Wilkesboro and Dean Shepherd of North Wilkesboro; her siblings, Ruby Fulp of Winston Salem, Rose Hoffay of High Point, Nell Deacon of Ferguson and Bud Bauguess (Beverly) of Traphill; her grandsons, William Higgins (Carolyn) of Grassy Creek and Michael Shepherd (Judy) of Cricket; and her great grandchildren, Gracie Higgins of North Wilkesboro, Brianna Higgins of Orlando, Connor Shepherd of Wilkesboro and Caitlynn Shepherd of Wilkesboro. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
