He is survived by: his wife Freida Fay Felts Matthews; his son Jason Charles Matthews (Ruth Ann Matthews) of Summerville, SC; his grandchildren, John Wesley Matthews of Braselton, GA, Meredith Katherine Matthews of Summerville, SC, Liam Wesley Hoover of Macon, GA and J. C. Wiles Matthews of Summerville, SC; his son Justin Jefferson Matthews (Johnna Richardson Matthews) of West Jefferson, NC; his grandchildren, Jackson Lynch Matthews of West Jefferson, NC and Jillian Day Matthews of Boone, NC; and his sister Margaret Christine Thomason of Galax, VA. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
