He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Caudill Byers; his children, Dawn Byers Queen (Terrence) of North Wilkesboro and James Darren Byers (Kenya) of Winston-Salem; his grandchildren, Taylor Queen, Leah Queen, Alexandra Byers, Ashley Byers and Worth Byers; and his siblings, Geraldine "Shirley" McCarter, Peggy Hutchinson, Gencie Bowlin (Harold), Herley Byers (Gail) and Rex Byers.
