She was predeceased by: her parents, Howard Poindexter and Lentie Jewel Webster Poindexter; her husband Maurice Dean Shumate; her granddaughter Breanna; her great grandchildren, Reese and Peyton; and her daughter-in-law Lori Shaffner Shumate.
She is survived by: her children, Wayne Scott Shumate (Doug) of Sherrills Ford, Barbara Dean Shumate of North Wilkesboro, Kathy Lynn Shumate of North Wilkesboro, Thomas Hardin Shumate of Wilkesboro, John Brian Shumate (Brenna) of Wilkesboro, Timothy Charles Shumate (Louann) of North Wilkesboro, Marian Sue Shumate (Vincent) of North Wilkesboro and Randal Dean Shumate of High Point; and her siblings, Donald York of Ramseur, Terry Kidd (Shirley) of Asheboro, Peggy Brown (Jerry) of Ramseur, Judy Brown of Ramseur and Patsy Rayfield (Mike).
