He was predeceased by: his parents, Norman Wagoner and Gracie Royal Wagoner; his daughter Carol Wyatt; and his siblings, Everette Wagoner, Clay "Short" Wagoner, Minnie Glass and Georgia Ellis.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Brown Wagoner of North Wilkesboro; his children, Dean Wagoner (Kathy) of North Wilkesboro and Joyce Mitchell (Allan) of North Wilkesboro; and his siblings, Caswell Wagoner of Wilkesboro, Don Wagoner (Rachel) of North Wilkesboro, Jim Wagoner (Cathy) of North Wilkesboro, Wade Wagoner (Helen) of McGrady, Ricky Wagoner of North Wilkesboro, Gay Tripplett (Daniel) of Purlear, Barbara Holbrook (Jim) of Moravian Falls and Cathy Calhoun (Bruce) of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
