He is survived by: his fiancée Gloria Davenport; his children, Dayshia Cowles of North Wilkesboro, Malaya Cowles of North Wilkesboro and Grant Cowles, Jr. of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Tenzin Cowles and Kieran Cowles; and his siblings, Rebecca Cowles of North Wilkesboro, Marion Cowles of North Wilkesboro, Angie Cowles of North Wilkesboro, Allen Cowles of North Wilkesboro, Robert Cowles of North Wilkesboro and Anthony Cowles (Donna) of Ronda.
