He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Carl and Melba Lorene Chambers Combs; his brother Robert; his brother-in-law Richard "Ricky" Shew; his mother-in-law Sallie Shew; and his grandmother Little Mama.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Combs of North Wilkesboro; his son David Combs, Jr. of North Wilkesboro; his sister Linda Roten (Fred) of Millers Creek; his grandchildren, Ryleigh Gilreath of North Wilkesboro, Aaron Gilreath of North Wilkesboro, Liam Shew of North Wilkesboro, Kelly Shew of North Wilkesboro and Taylor Combs of Denver, Colorado; his sister-in-law Brenda Shew Combs of North Wilkesboro; his nephews, Robert Allen Combs, Jr. (Wendy) of North Wilkesboro, Steven Shew (Lori) of North Wilkesboro, Richard Shew (Kayla) of North Wilkesboro and Timothy Roten of Winston Salem; and his niece Kim Gilreath (Brian) of North Wilkesboro. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles.
