He was predeceased by: his parents, Montgomery Mathis and Rebecca Johnson Mathis; his sons, Billy Michael Mathis and Berry William Mathis; and his siblings, Judy Hendren, Willa Johnson, Arcille Mathis, Gaither Mathis, Archie Mathis, Hugh Mathis, Rogan Mathis, Troy Mathis and Devon Mathis.
He is survived by: his wife Maggie Moore Mathis; his children, Bridgett Mathis of Wilkesboro, Britt Mathis of North Wilkesboro, Jon Mathis of Boomer and Bart Mathis (Jenna) of North Wilkesboro; and his grandchildren, Dillon Mathis, Nathan Mathis, Noel Pratt, Tate Pratt, Zoe Mathis and Brody Mathis. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
