He is survived by: his children, Linda Sturgill of Hays, Phyllis Sturgill Richardson of North Wilkesboro, Alvin Wayne Sturgill of North Wilkesboro, James "Peanut" Ward Rhoads (Linda Kay) of North Wilkesboro and Michael "Monk" Dwight Sturgill of North Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Melissa Pardo, Elizabeth Gail Absher, James Matthew Rhoads, Brandon Wayne Sturgill, Jamie Spicer, Joey Spicer, Christy McDaniels, Davy Sturgill, Amelia Richardson and Logan Richardson; his great grandchildren, Aubry Wentworth, Kaitlyn Wentworth, Alyiah Spicer, Zackery Spicer, Nicole Sturgill, Sydney Sturgill, Teagin McDaniel and Charlie McDaniel; his great great grandchildren, Killian and Octavia; and his brother Floyd Sturgill of North Wilkesboro.
