He was predeceased by: his daughter Laurie Jane; his parents, Ross Matheson and Marie Matheson; and his sister Betty. He is survived by: his wife Jane. He is also survived by brother-in-law, two nephews, four nieces, four cousins, and a number of Masonic brothers.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Catawba Memorial Park (3060 US Hwy 70 SE, Hickory, NC 28602).
