She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Merritt and Mary Gavin Merritt; her husband Estes J. Akers; and her sisters, Betty Jo Belt, Delores Foxx and Shirley Miller.
She is survived by: her children, Donna Sykes (Roy) of Ivanhoe and David Akers (Tammy) of Dunn; her grandchildren, William Sykes, Clista Sykes, Morgan Sykes, Joshua Akers and Dani Lynn Akers; her great grandchildren, Annabelle Phillips, Penelope Sykes, Makenzie Akers of Audrey Akers, J. D, Trinity Akers, Kate Gibson, Taylor Gibson, Lillian Foss, Gavin Foss and Maddy Akers; and her sister Brenda Howard (Richard) of Burnsville, NC. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
