She was predeceased by: her parents, Cay Willis and Virginia Willis; her former husband Harry Buchanan; and her brothers, Jimmy Willis, Earnest Willis, Wayne Willis and Brown Willis.

She is survived by: her husband Luther Hess; her children, Keith Buchanan (Jane) of Sawmills, Shellie Buchanan of Newton and Dessalee Benfield of Waynesville; her sister Beverly Grindstaff (Roger) of Catawba; and her grandchildren, Clint Guthrie, Angela Reid of Bryan Buchanan, D. J, Stephanie Buchanan, Ricky Hildebran, Darla Blevins, Amanda Schnur, Randie Conner and Brandie Tucker.
